Livemedia has captured images of the lake Koroneia that faces serious problems of desiccation.
Koroneia Lake located a few kilometers east of Thessaloniki, was the amonst the most productive lakes in Greece in the 1950s and then gradually the lake was drained off. The last occurrence of fish was in 1995 and the summer of 1999, the lake was completely dried.
Despite the European Union's warnings, since 2003, Greece was found guilty of failing to protect the lake and its ecosystem.
Human intervention has destroyed the natural ecosystem and in times of drought the lake disappears completely.
