Every 20 seconds a diabetic amputated world
he diabetic foot, one of the most common and severe complications of diabetes, is associated with the amputation of the lower extremities of some diabetic every 20 seconds list.
The main factors that lead to amputation are ulcers of the lower limbs. Today, it is estimated that 25% of people with diabetes will show ulcers in the legs at least once during their lifetime.
Statistically, more than 1,000,000 people with diabetes are forced to undergo the amputation of a limb annually.
This is underlined by the Greek Society for the Study of Diabetic Foot Disease, on the occasion of the 3rd National Symposium, to be held from 5-8 February in Thessaloniki.
The Symposium will develop issues related to rational treatment of diseases of the Diabetic Foot, and versatile management of the patient with similar problems. Moreover, it will examine the possibilities of better regulation of glucose, hypertension and lipids, as has been shown that the overall control of risk factors contribute substantially to avoid amputations.
The prevention and treatment of diabetic foot disorders are a group issue, where many medical specialties involved (Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, etc.). The theme concerns also restore akrotiriasthenton patients and socioeconomic impacts of amputations.
The presentation of the themes will be in the form of short lectures, debates on controversial topics, discussions on interesting events, roundtables and mainly mock exams with active participation of delegates.
