MA of Athens is contrary to the increase of VAT on tourism services that will boost the weakening of Greek medical tourism
The Athens Medical Association is opposed to any increase in VAT on tourism services to tourism services, since such a development would have negative consequences in the medical tourism.
Reduced VAT rates contributed effectively to boost medical tourism in our country, which is famous for its easy access to high quality health services, provided by reputable medical personnel. It should be noted that the neighboring countries that invest particularly in the development of medical tourism, have a low VAT or 6%, resulting in the increase of VAT in our country, lead to the inflow of capital investment in these countries and not in Greece , resulting in the collapse of the Greek medical tourism.
Besides not of that necessary care to maintain low VAT, which must be ensured by personal intervention of the Minister of Health and Minister of Tourism to the Minister of Finance, the ISA reiterates its firm position on the development of medical tourism in order a) to create new jobs, b) the emergence of large cities as City Break Destination, c) attract patients for providing high quality medical services and d) to stimulate investment in our country bringing the Greek medical tourism as a competitive product worldwide.
The Greek State, therefore, should continue its efforts so that medical tourism being the attraction pole of the global medical community to create all the conditions for strengthening the economy and creating new jobs in our country.
