First prize in the student department of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
The First Prize of Composition in the World Composition Competition Antonín Dvořák, in the category of Young Composers, won the student of the Music Department of the Aristotle University, Orestis Papaioannou.
The aim of the competition is to promote young talented composers from around the world and is dedicated to the great Czech composer, Antonín Dvořák. In the finals of the competition participated composers aged 18-23 years from 19 countries around the world. In addition to the three main prizes (1st, 2nd, 3rd place) were given additional seven special awards of which Orestis Papaioannou won the prize for best work style and rigorous Prize better tonal music.
Contestants were asked to write in Prague two new projects during the period 27-31 July 2015, based on musical themes given by the Competition Commission.
The first project strict style in which Orestis Papaioannou excelled called «Prague Canon» and a rule for string orchestra. "Prague, from the classical era yet, standing as an inspiration for many composers who visited her and wrote works that were executed to historians of venues, with a higher instance Agreement n. 38 of WA Mozart, the so-called" Prague symphony ". Somehow I wrote this rule as a tribute to Prague, which takes you to another era, "says award-winning student of Aristotle, Orestis Papaioannou.
