The 2nd Global Pontian Youth Forum
The Blessings of Unity between all Pontian-Greeks!
The 2nd Global Pontian Youth Forum will be conducted on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of October in Thessaloniki (Greece), in the presence of his All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I
The great-grandchildren of the Pontian refugees, who come from all corners of the world, are going to meet in autumn at the “unofficial capital” of Pontian Hellenism, Thessaloniki!
Having received his All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s blessings, 500 young Pontian People from all over the world are going to participate in the 2nd Global Pontian Youth Forum, which will be conducted on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of October in the “Ioannis Vellidis” Congress Center. This three-day event is held under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and is sponsored by the Charitable Foundation of Ivan Savvidi.
It is worth mentioning that it is a major world-class event of great importance for all Pontian Greeks. Ten years after the conduct of the 1st Forum in Frankfurt, the young Greek-Pontian people remain loyal to their ancestors’ values and principles and aim at proving that the Pontian youth is “alive”, creative, modern and fully aware of its historic mission.
During the three-day event, they are going to discuss a great variety of topics, emphasizing on the importance of the promotion and enhancement of the Greek language and culture, the preservation and dissemination of the ideals and values of Orthodoxy and Hellenism, and the strengthening of the multilateral relations between the Greek Diaspora Youth and its historical Motherland.
His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is going to give a welcome speech at the beginning of the 2nd Global Pontian Youth Forum. This was decided during the visit of the members of the Forum’s Organising Committee to the Ecumenical Patriarchate (July 2015), when they had the honor of receiving the patriarchal blessings.
As the Organising Committee’s Coordinator has stated himself: “We believe that this Pontian Youth Forum, in which representatives from around the world are participating, will be an important step towards forming a more perfect union between all the Pontian Greeks. We –the young Pontian Greeks– live, work and prosper all over the world and consequently, each one of us faces different difficulties, depending on his/her own local community’s life conditions. But we remain united and have a common goal: to contribute as much as possible to the international recognition of our ancestors’ genocide, which is more urgent than ever. Moreover, we also wish to contribute to the efforts of resolving the crisis, currently experienced by Greece and all the Hellenes worldwide. Though many kilometers may lie between us, we are still connected to each other due to our common ancestry, our own Pontus, our common Orthodox faith, our own Greece” (Alkis Anastasiades).
The Forum’s works will begin on Friday October 2nd, 2015 and will have been completed on Sunday October 4th, 2015. It should be mentioned that a great Pontian Cultural Festival will be conducted on Sunday evening in the PAOK Sports Arena.
The Forum’s programme includes –among others- the thorough discussion of five distinct topics, on which the delegates are going to share their thoughts, and the speeches of distinguished people of international repute. The discussion-topics are all related to significant subject matters, such as the Education System and the preservation and protection of the Greek national identity, etc.
The topics of the Forum are the following:
1. The 21st century challenges, the Pontian youth and its critical role in global society
2. The prospects of the recognition of the Genocide Trinity (the Armenian, Assyrian, and Pontian-Greek Genocides) in the 21st century and the role of the Pontian youth
3. Greek Education and Culture
4. The Orthodox faith and Pontian youth
5. The national crisis of Hellenism and the crisis of values
