Hellenic Red Cross supports refugees at the port of Thessaloniki
A group of Hellenic Red Cross volunteers were at the Port of Thessaloniki to care for the first refugees who arrived in Thessaloniki. The team, consisting of a doctor, nurse, and nursing and rescue volunteers, set up a tent from which medical services and first aid will be offered.
The first 362 refugees, mostly Syrians and some Iraqis, arrived in the morning by bus at the port, coming from the port of Kavala. A temporary accommodation centre has been set up for them.
The humanitarian assistance is carried out in cooperating between the Thessaloniki Port Authority, the Coast Guard, the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrakis, the army, the Hellenic Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations, while the responsibility for the overall coordination is with the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
The HRC Thessaloniki local branch continues to collect humanitarian aid from inhabitants.
